Goodluck Jonathan Arrives Abidjan for Côte d'Ivoire Presidential Election


Today, His Excellency Dr Goodluck Jonathan, former President of Nigeria and a prominent member of the West African Elders Forum (WAEF), arrived in Abidjan alongside other delegates as part of the WAEF Election Mission. The mission comes ahead of Côte d'Ivoire’s impending presidential election scheduled for Saturday, October 25, 2025.


Upon arrival, His Excellency expressed optimism about engaging with various stakeholders throughout Côte d'Ivoire. He emphasised that these discussions are vital in demonstrating solidarity with the citizens of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire. "We look forward to fruitful engagements with stakeholders," he stated, highlighting the WAEF's commitment to supporting efforts that foster peaceful, credible, and inclusive electoral processes within the West African subregion.


The WAEF mission aims to ensure that the upcoming election upholds democratic principles and reflects the will of the Ivorian people. As such, Dr Jonathan and the team are set to meet with electoral officials, political leaders, and civil society organisations to address relevant issues and promote a transparent electoral climate.


The West African Elders Forum, known for its dedication to peace and stability in the region, continues to play a crucial role in overseeing electoral processes and facilitating dialogue among key actors in West Africa.
