Trump Says Second Military Strike on Nigeria Likely
Two weeks after the United States military launched airstrikes on suspected terrorists enclaves in Northern Nigeria, President Donald Trump has warned that he could order more airstrikes if christians continue to be killed.
In an interview with the the U.S publication, The New York Times, Trump said the Nigerian authorities must do more to protect christians
"I'd love to make it a one-time strike. But if they continue to kill Christians it will be a many-time strike," the U.S leader said.
When pressed whether if indeed there was a Christian genocide in Nigeria, President Trump admitted Muslims were also being killed but insisted that "its mostly christians" wihout backing his comment with any facts.
The Christian genocide position of the White House has been repeatedly debunked by Nigerian authorities.
It has however yet to comment on Trump's latest remarks even as a Joint Working Group was set up between both countries in the aftermath of the visit by a Nigerian delegation to Washington.
This was a few days after the Trump administration re-designated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern at the end of October last year.
