PDP CONGRESSES COMMENCE IN BAYELSA MARCH 3, PARTY RALLIES MEMBERS AHEAD OF 2027
Yenagoa, Bayelsa State - The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State will on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, commence its ward congresses across the 105 wards of the state, marking the official take-off of a new round of internal party elections aimed at repositioning the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Party leaders described the exercise as a critical step in rebuilding and strengthening the PDP’s structures from the grassroots, urging members across the eight local government areas to actively participate in the process.
According to a statement signed by the Acting State Secretary, Ato Alfreder, the timetable released by the party, shows that the ward congresses scheduled for March 3 will be followed by Local Government Area (LGA) congresses on Saturday, March 7, where LGA executive committee members and national delegates will be elected.
The State Congress is billed for Saturday, March 14, while the party’s National Convention is scheduled to hold from Sunday, March 29 to Monday, March 30, 2026.
Stakeholders within the party say the congresses present an opportunity to deepen internal democracy, foster unity, and reposition the PDP for greater electoral success, particularly as political activities gradually build up toward the 2027 polls.
Party faithful across the state have been enjoined to turn out en masse and be part of what leaders described as a “historic moment” in the party’s journey in Bayelsa State.
In a rallying call to key demographics, the Acting Chairman of the party in Bayelsa State, Hon. Barr. Alabh George Turnah, MON specifically encouraged youths and women to take advantage of the congresses to assert their roles in leadership and decision-making processes.
“Bayelsa youths and women, this is your time; take it; seize it,” Turnah stated, emphasizing the need for inclusiveness and generational renewal within the PDP.
The outcome of the congresses is expected to shape the leadership structure of the party at various levels and significantly influence its preparedness and cohesion ahead of the next general elections.
