Port Harcourt - The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), in collaboration with the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and ethical governance through a high-level compliance training workshop held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The workshop, themed “Good Governance and Ethical Conduct for Public Servants and Asset Declaration,” was designed to strengthen institutional frameworks, promote integrity, and enhance compliance with the Code of Conduct for Public Officers across the Commission.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of the NDDC, Samuel Ogbuku, emphasized that the initiative goes beyond routine asset declaration, describing it as a strategic effort to reinforce corporate governance and entrench ethical standards within the Commission.
According to him, the training aligns with the broader reform agenda of the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly the Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes transparency, accountability, and improved public sector performance.
Ogbuku noted that the NDDC remains committed to institutional reforms that will reposition the Commission for greater efficiency and impactful service delivery across the Niger Delta region.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau, Abdullahi Usman Bello, reiterated that asset declaration is not optional but a constitutional obligation for all public servants. He warned that failure to comply could attract serious consequences, including prosecution and the forfeiture of undeclared assets.
Bello further stressed the importance of ethical conduct in public service, urging participants to uphold integrity and accountability in the discharge of their duties.
The workshop also provided participants with practical insights into asset declaration procedures, compliance requirements, and best practices in public service ethics. Resource persons engaged attendees in interactive sessions aimed at deepening understanding and encouraging full adherence to established guidelines.
The NDDC stated that the initiative forms part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen governance structures, build institutional capacity, and ensure sustainable development in the Niger Delta.
Stakeholders at the event commended the collaboration between the NDDC and the Code of Conduct Bureau, describing it as a timely intervention that will enhance transparency and restore public confidence in governance processes within the region.
