PDP NOTIFIES BYSIEC OF NEW LEADERSHIP; VOWS TO CONTEST ALL 2027 LGA SEATS IN BAYELSA

Yenagoa - The Bayelsa State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally notified the Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission (BYSIEC) of the emergence of its new leadership structure across the state, while also announcing the relocation of its State Secretariat to a new address in Yenagoa.

In a formal communication dated March 26, 2026, and addressed to the Chairman of BYSIEC, the party stated that new Executive Committees have been duly elected and inaugurated at the Ward, Local Government Area (LGA), and State levels, following the successful conduct of its congresses.

The PDP emphasized that the congresses were conducted in strict compliance with the party’s constitution, electoral guidelines, and extant laws, under the supervision of relevant regulatory and security agencies, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other security bodies.

The letter, jointly signed by the State Chairman, Hon. Barr. Alabh George Turnah, MON, and the State Secretary, Hon. Ato Alfreder Ebibofayei, formally presented the State Working Committee (SWC) to the Commission for official recognition, with Turnah leading the new leadership.

As part of its restructuring efforts, the party also notified BYSIEC of the relocation of its State Secretariat to its new office located along Isaac Adaka Boro Expressway, by Timikon Gas Station, Okutukutu, Yenagoa, directing that all official correspondence be forwarded to the new address.

Speaking on the development, the State Chairman, Hon. Barr. Alabh George Turnah, MON, reaffirmed the party’s readiness to reposition itself as a formidable political force in the state, declaring that the PDP is fully prepared to participate in the 2027 local government elections.

Turnah stated emphatically that the party will field candidates for all 105 councillorship seats and the 8 chairmanship positions across the state, describing the move as a demonstration of the PDP’s grassroots strength and renewed organizational capacity.

“Our party has undergone a thorough and credible internal process that has produced a strong, united, and people-oriented leadership across all levels. This is a clear signal that the PDP in Bayelsa is back, stronger and more determined than ever,” he said.

He assured party faithful and the people of Bayelsa State that the PDP remains committed to providing purposeful leadership and deepening democratic values at the grassroots.

“We are poised not just to participate, but to win convincingly across all wards and local government areas. The PDP will field candidates in all 105 councillorship seats and the 8 chairmanship positions, and by the grace of God, we will emerge victorious. Bayelsans can be assured that better and more inclusive governance is on the horizon,” Turnah added.

The PDP leadership further reiterated its commitment to working closely with BYSIEC to ensure credible, transparent, and peaceful elections, while urging its members to remain united and focused as the party consolidates its structures ahead of future electoral engagements.

The development is widely seen as a bold step by the PDP to reassert its dominance in Bayelsa’s political landscape and restore confidence among its supporters across the state.
