TURNAH REAFFIRMS PEOPLE-CENTRED LEADERSHIP AS AKINAKA REVALIDATES PDP MEMBERSHIP IN BAYELSA
Yenagoa, Bayelsa State - The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State, Hon. Barr. Alabh George Turnah, MON, has reaffirmed his commitment to repositioning the party as a truly people-driven platform, declaring that under his leadership, the PDP will continue to do things differently.
Turnah made the declaration during the congratulatory and membership revalidation visit of Niger Delta businessman, Mr. Richard Akinaka, at the PDP State Secretariat, where he congratulated the State Chairman and members of the State Working Committee on their emergence and inauguration.
“Under my leadership, we’re doing things differently. When the time comes, it will be very obvious that this party has returned back to the people,” Turnah stated, adding that the PDP remains focused on reconnecting with the grassroots and restoring confidence among Bayelsans.
He further assured that the party is poised to reclaim its place of leadership in the state, expressing optimism about future electoral victories.
“The assurance we give to Bayelsans is that PDP, come 2027 will clear a lot of doubts in this state. Come February 14, 2028, we will inaugurate our Governor, we will take over Creek Haven and we will administer this State to the glory of God and to the benefit of all Bayelsans,” he said.
On his part, Mr. Akinaka expressed delight over the overwhelming turnout of party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters, describing it as a clear indication that the PDP remains strong and deeply rooted in Bayelsa State.
“This thing was just planned less than two days ago that I’m coming to the state to congratulate the Exco and revalidate my membership to this great party, and within this short notice, this massive turnout shows that the PDP is the only true party in Bayelsa State,” he noted.
He commended party faithful who stood firm during challenging times, adding that “The biological party to Bayelsans is PDP, and everything about PDP in Bayelsa State is organic. I want to congratulate us as a party, especially those of us who have stood by the party in these trying moments.”
Akinaka, however, lamented what he described as leadership gaps in the state and called for a renewed sense of responsibility among leaders. “Bayelsa State needs leadership. There’s a yearning gap of leadership at all levels… this we must correct and as a party we must be alive to that responsibility,” he added.
The event, which witnessed a large turnout of party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters, was described as carnival-like, reflecting the renewed enthusiasm within the party.
A statement signed by Kelvin Loveday-Egbo, Media Assistant to the Chairman of the PDP, Bayelsa State noted that highlights of the visit included a closed-door meeting with members of the State Working Committee, the settlement of all outstanding membership dues by Mr. Akinaka, and the formal presentation of his Membership E-Registration Card by the State Chairman.
The Bayelsa PDP leadership reiterated its commitment to unity, inclusiveness, and grassroots mobilization as it continues efforts to reposition the party for greater success.
