Ashaka-Kwale, Delta State - The wives of the 25 Local Government Council Chairmen in Delta State converged in Ashaka-Kwale, Ndokwa East Local Government Area, for their monthly prayer meeting aimed at seeking divine guidance, peace, and continued development across the state.
The meeting, hosted on Wednesday, May 13, 2027, by Mrs. Ekos Osilonya, wife of the Executive Chairman of Ndokwa East Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Vincent Onyekweli Osilonya, brought together members of the Forum of Wives of Delta State Local Government Council Chairmen in a gathering marked by prayers, thanksgiving, and deliberations on grassroots development.
Speaking during the event, Mrs. Osilonya described the gathering as an avenue for the women to unite in prayer and contribute meaningfully to the growth of local governments in Delta State.
“As the saying goes, when women pray, heaven moves,” she said. “We have come together in one accord to pray for peace in our land, for the success of our various local governments, and for divine wisdom and strength for our Governor, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori.”
She reaffirmed the forum’s commitment to supporting women, children, and the girl-child through outreach programmes such as food support initiatives and healthcare services. According to her, these efforts align with the vision of the “You Matter Charity Foundation” championed by the First Lady of Delta State, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori.
Mrs. Osilonya praised the First Lady for her dedication to humanitarian service, describing her as “a prayerful woman, a beacon of hope and virtue,” while commending her leadership qualities, warmth, and support for families across the state.
The forum also reaffirmed support for the re-election bids of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, urging women and youths to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate actively in future elections to sustain ongoing developmental strides in Delta State.
Coordinator of the forum, Mrs. Ella Jude Chukwuweike, explained that the monthly prayer meetings rotate across the 25 local government areas of the state. She noted that the gathering in Ndokwa East provided an opportunity to specifically pray for the host local government, its leadership, and the progress of Delta State as a whole.
Mrs. Efechukwu Ehiwarior, wife of the Executive Chairman of Ika South Local Government Area, commended Hon. Chief Vincent Onyekweli Osilonya for his warm hospitality and the remarkable developmental strides witnessed in Ndokwa East Local Government Area in line with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E. Agenda. She also offered prayers for God’s wisdom, strength, and guidance upon the chairman as he continues to lead the affairs of the council.
In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of Ndokwa East Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Vincent Onyekweli Osilonya, appreciated the women for their steadfast prayers and support for governance at the grassroots.
Describing local government chairmen as “soldiers of His Excellency at the grassroots,” he charged the women to remain committed to mobilising support for the success of Governor Oborevwori and other leaders in future electoral contests.
“We are committed to doing everything within our capacity to ensure the success of His Excellency,” he stated.
The chairman further encouraged the women to continue supporting the programmes of the First Lady while urging Deltans to remain united despite prevailing economic challenges.
The meeting ended on a strong note of unity, prayers, and renewed commitment to the development of Delta State, particularly in advancing the welfare of women and children at the grassroots level.
