Bayelsa PDP Gains as Hilda Asamere Okojie Dumps APC

YENAGOA — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State has recorded another political gain with the defection of Mrs. Hilda Asamere Okojie, a prominent politician from Sampou Community in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, from the All Progressives Congress (APC) back to the PDP.

The party described the development as a clear indication of the growing confidence of Bayelsans in the leadership and ideals of the PDP, noting that more political stakeholders across the state are identifying with the party.

Announcing the defection in a statement issued in Yenagoa on Monday, the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Hon. Ikaebimo Mark, said Mrs. Okojie had formally resigned her membership of the APC and communicated her decision to return to the PDP.

According to the statement, the former APC member reaffirmed her confidence in the PDP's vision, leadership and commitment to promoting peace, inclusive governance and sustainable development in Bayelsa State.

The party's leadership, under the Chairman, Hon. Chief Alabh George Turnah, Esq. (MON), warmly welcomed Mrs. Okojie's return, describing it as another strategic boost to the PDP's expanding political base across the state.

The PDP maintained that the increasing wave of defections by political leaders, women, youths and grassroots supporters demonstrates the enduring popularity and acceptance of the party among the people of Bayelsa.

"The steady influx of committed stakeholders into our great party is a reflection of the confidence the people continue to repose in the PDP and its leadership. It reinforces our position as the preferred political platform for the collective aspirations and progress of Bayelsans," the statement said.

The party assured Mrs. Okojie of equal opportunities to contribute to its activities and decision-making processes, stressing that her experience and commitment would further strengthen the PDP ahead of the forthcomingelections.

It also disclosed that arrangements were underway for her formal reception into the party, adding that the date for the event, which will also welcome her supporters into the PDP, would be announced soon.

Mrs. Okojie is regarded as an influential political figure from Sampou, the hometown of Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri. Her return to the PDP is expected to further consolidate the party's grassroots support in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area.

The PDP congratulated her on her decision and expressed confidence that her return would contribute significantly to the party's commitment to deepening democracy, strengthening unity and advancing good governance across Bayelsa State.
