Adadja Youth Council Demands End to Marginalisation, Seeks Urgent Development of Oil-Producing Communities

Udu, Delta State - The Adadja Youth Council (AYC) has called for urgent government and corporate intervention to address what it described as years of marginalisation and neglect of communities within the Adadja sub-clan in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.
The council made the demand during a stakeholders’ meeting with the Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Hon. Vincent Oyibode, held on September 1, 2026, at the Udu Local Government Secretariat.
The AYC maintained that Adadja is a sub-clan comprising Emadadja, Ubogo, Ugbisi, Obubu, Ekrota and Kperheren communities. According to the youth council, the communities host more than 20 oil wells but have continued to suffer neglect from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and other oil-producing companies operating in the area.
Among its major demands, the youth council called for increased political appointments for indigenes of the communities, the immediate commencement of work at the Emadadja Flow Station, establishment of a tertiary institution, construction of internal roads linking the communities, and the establishment of a modern skills acquisition centre, among other developmental projects.
Responding, the Udu Local Government Chairman, Hon. Vincent Oyibode, requested copies of letters submitted by the individual communities, as well as other relevant documents to support their demands. He assured the delegates that the council would engage constructively with the relevant organisations and authorities to pursue solutions to the issues raised.
Oyibode also commended the Adadja Youth Council for choosing peaceful agitation as a means of expressing its concerns, assuring them that their requests would be presented to the appropriate bodies and that the council would follow up to ensure that the expected results were achieved.
